    April 3, 2020 COVID19 Update

    Good Evening HSMC Families,

This is Dr. Fennell with an update regarding our transition to distance education.   All California schools will be utilizing distance education for the remainder of the school year. The High School at Moorpark College campus is closed for all students for the remainder of the year. Next week, April 6 – 10 remains Spring Break for HSMC students for both high school and college courses. We will resume our distance education plan when we return from Spring Break on April 13. I will continue to provide information each week as we progress together during this difficult time. Thank you for your continued support of the High School at Moorpark College.

What does this mean for your student?

    • All California schools will be utilizing distance education for the remainder of the school year. The High School at Moorpark College campus is closed for all students for the remainder of the year.

    • Monday, April 6 – Friday April 10 is Spring Break.  Students will not have course work during this time.

    • The High School at Moorpark College campus is closed for all students through the remainder of the school year.

    • All extracurricular activities and events are being cancelled or postponed for the remainder of the school year.  Modified plans for senior activities are being discussed and will be shared with you as soon as decisions are made.

    • All students (9th, 11th and 12th Graders) will be following the guidance from the Chancellor for college courses.  All courses for Moorpark College will be "distance education" through the end of the semester. Students should contact their professors directly with any specific questions.

    • High School (9, 11, 12) courses will utilize our district distance education plan for the remainder of the school year.
      • For each high school course, students will enroll in an online course per teacher instructions that have been emailed by the teacher to the student.  For many courses, students were already enrolled in an online module.
      • Each week, for each course, teachers will provide some form of direct instruction and provide at least one assignment that will be graded with written feedback and posted in Q. Courses will still be graded and will be posted on transcripts in the same manner as in-person courses.
      • Students may be asked to participate in a variety of online discussions including written forums, google meets, etc.
      • Weekly assignments also provide proof of attendance, and as such are doubly important.
      • Teachers will be available to answer questions and clarify ideas via email throughout the week and will also be holding live “office hours” online each week.  The tentative schedule is as follows and will be communicated by each teacher directly to their classes:
        • Jessica Hendrix - Thursdays 9 – 11 am
        • Eric Hoobs - Wednesdays 1 – 3 pm
        • Melissa Pistone - Tuesday / Thursday 1 - 2 pm
        • David Sudberry - Tuesday / Thursday 8:15 – 9:15 am
        • Jennifer Silva – Monday / Wednesday 10:30 – 11:30 am

    • The school administration and counseling department will be reaching out directly to each 11th grade family in the coming weeks to ensure successful enrollment in the appropriate Moorpark College courses for both summer and fall 2020.

    • More information regarding school schedule, calendar, and courses for 2020-2021 will be available in April.
