ACADEMIC STUDIES

The High School at Moorpark college middle college is a challenging and stimulating collaborative program that enables students to obtain a quality high school education while concurrently receiving direct and invaluable access to college courses and services. We bring students from many different Ventura County and Los Angeles County, as well as various independent study and homeschool programs to create a friendly, close-knit, dynamic learning community that strengthens the group as well as the individual.  Students enter the classroom every day feeling valued and respected for their opinions, skills, and talents.

Students take English, social studies, and elective classes from our high school teachers, and complete their math, science, and additional graduation requirements with college faculty, as well as any other subjects they may have interest in pursuing.  High school classes are Monday through Thursday  from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a half-hour nutrition break and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Students can take college courses mornings, evenings, Fridays, and Saturdays, and earn both high school and college credit for each class. This dual enrollment process allows many of our students to graduate high school with a year or more of college already completed.

Students will:

  • Participate in class discussions and seminars
  • Develop critical thinking skills
  • Become effective communicators
  • Learn to comprehend, apply, analyze, and synthesize data
  • Apply classroom knowledge to the world around them
  • Demonstrate a respect for themselves and for others
  • The High School at Moorpark college features many of the social activities one would find in a comprehensive high school: a junior/senior prom, yearbook, graduation ceremony, and Senior Grad Night.

HS@MC’s four full-time teachers are creative, enthusiastic, and committed to providing a rigorous academic experience with a wide range of educational opportunities that challenge students, using critical thinking and learning community models that are aligned to state content standards as well as infusing career-based skills.  Schoolwork focuses on group work, projects, and writing rather than multiple-choice tests.  Student achievement is constantly monitored, reviewed, and communicated to students as well as parents through parent conferences and meetings, website access, and email.

Moorpark College also provides a full range of student services and developmental programs to meet the needs of HS@MC students, including foundational services such as admissions and records, articulation, counseling, health center, financial aid, Learning Center, Writing Center, and ACCESS for students with disabilities. The college also provides support through student activities and clubs, Women’s Center, the music program, and student government.
